Your favorite shade discontinued?

I'm sure it's happened to almost every woman. You go to buy your favorite shade of lipstick and they tell you it no longer exits!  Panic sets in along with disbelief!

Well, there's still hope ladies. Some brands offer discontinued items directly to the consumer and there are also websites that either help you find these elusive products or recreate them for you.

For example a company called Three Custom Color
This Manhattan company will recreate your favorite item from a dime-size sample, or custom-blend a shade to match a photo or swatch in seven to ten days.  If you run out before saving a sample don't despair.  Their archive of products (which is heavy on lipsticks) dates back to the 1930s and may have it. Your item will be catalogued once you order for future purchases. Their prices are $50 for two lipsticks or lip glosses; $47.50 for bronzer or loose powder; $37.50 for blusher; and $36.50 for pressed powder, brow powder or gel, cake eyeliner, shadow or concealer. Visit threecustom.com or call (888) 262-7714.

To find products from Estée Lauder brands

(e.g., Clinique, Prescriptives, Stila, Bobbi Brown, MAC, La Mer, Aveda, Origins, Jo Malone, American Beauty, Good Skin)

The Gone But Not Forgotten program offers discontinued items via Global Consumer Communications, (646) 602-7800. (They accept credit cards only).

Prescriptives.com has a Last Chance page.

MAC has a Goodbyes page for about-to-go products.

Stila's customer service line, (866) 415-1332, will try to find a product similar to favorite discontinued one.  Sometimes it's just been renamed and repackaged.

So for those of you that thought there was just no hope in finding an oldie but
goodie, happy hunting!

My picks for best eyeliner pencil

Ok, so I went ahead and tested a few brands of waterproof eye pencils.

  1. Estee Lauder Double Wear eyeliner
  2. Christian Dior waterproof eyeliner
  3. YSL waterproof eye pencil
  4. Chanel Stylo Yeux waterproof automatic pencil
  5. Lancome Le Stylo waterproof automatic pencil
  6. Nars Larger Than Life Long-wear eyeliner

They all faired pretty good with the exception of #5.  Lancome's pencil smudged to the touch even after more than 5 minutes.  I've tried Lauder's Double Wear but I have to say that sometimes after a while it does smudge in the inner corners of the eyes.  Dior's eyeliner glides easily, which is nice but their black is not so black. YSL also glides easily and holds up good. Chanel's automatic W/P pencil is actually really good but couldn't find a black. The closest they had to black was Black shimmer. Nars pencil was pretty good and they have a wide selection of colors. Although when rubbed the Nars black pencil crumbled but it didn't in the white. Maybe it's something in the black formulation.

So my personal picks...YSL and Chanel are the two that held up the best.

With that said, I'm not in a hurry to trade in my Bobbi Brown Black ink gel liner. The the wearability, control and definition is unmatched.

Hope I was helpful!

On the Prowl for the perfect eyeliner

I'm up and ready for a challenge!

Today, I'm on the hunt for the perfect, stay in place, no fuss eyeliner. I have a few in mind but they're going to have to past the test!
Right now I use Bobbi Brown's Gel eyeliner in black and it holds up pretty good. I can seriously wake up with it the next morning looking like I just put it on. The gel is applied with a brush but today I'm going to test out waterproof eyeliner pencils.
I will be trying out Christian Dior's new waterproof automatic eyeliner and YSL waterproof pencil plus anymore that I can find.
Stay tuned for the winner!

It's all new

I'm definitely new to blogging but really excited!

I intend to use my blog to give makeup tips and offer solutions by providing products that will work towards accomplishing the task at hand.  I too am always learning and there are constantly new products on the market. It's sometimes overwhelming keeping up with it all. I hope to simplify it a little. I love helping people and answering any makeup questions.
So stay tuned this is going to be fun!
